La Esperanza Granada

La Esperanza Granada is a small non-profit organization focused on improving the educational system in different impoverished 'barrios' in Granada, Nicaragua. Together with volunteers from around the world, they wish to offer children in poverty-stricken villages a chance at a better future. They try to motivate the local communities to step up and improve their own living conditions.

La Esperanza currently has several projects running in seven different communities, where they make sure there are enough classrooms, school materials such as books, pencils, tables, chairs, and many other necessities to offer the kids in these 'barrios' a decent education. Together with local teachers, parents and children, they make sure these villages get the opportunity to advance. La Esperanza also makes sure many kids get a scholarship to complete their secondary education. The top students even get a scholarship to go to university.

La Esperanza Granada is basically a volunteer group. There are volunteers from all over the world who work at the local schools. They help children with reading, writing and math to make sure the local teachers can focus on their regular students. Those who fall behind, get to work with volunteers to improve their skills and knowledge.

Mission Statement:
"It is the organization's mission to provide opportunities and resources for the long-term educational advancement and community development of Nicaraguan 'barrios'. We hope to brighten the future of the children by empowering the people of the villages to improve their current living conditions and break through the cycle of poverty. The main focus is on children's education."

"Our motto: We believe in giving a hand up, not a handout."
